There are many reasons why a patient requires veneers, such as covering up discolored, chipped, or misaligned teeth.

Dental Veneer Placement

If you are considering veneers or about to undergo the procedure, you will want to be prepared. Usually, the process requires a few trips to Raptou Family Dental in Columbus, OH.

It is common for veneers to take up to three visits in total.

First, your teeth are examined, and an impression of your teeth are taken, which is then sent to a dental laboratory so that your veneers can be made. To prepare your teeth, they will need to be reshaped. The tooth surface is made thinner so that the veneer can fit the same way your tooth naturally does. As your teeth will be trimmed, you may have temporary veneers fitted.

Once your veneers are ready, Dr. Nicholas Raptou or Dr. Isaac Raptou will then place them over the tooth to ensure a good fit and color. If it requires, the veneer will be trimmed and color can be adjusted through cement selection.

Next, the tooth needs to be prepared by being cleaned, polished, and etched. Etching is the process of roughening the tooth to allow a strong bond of the veneer and tooth. A special cement is then applied, and the veneer is placed. Once the veneer has been correctly positioned, Dr. Nicholas Raptou or Dr. Isaac Raptou will then use a special light which causes the cement to harden.

As your appointment comes to a close, any excess cement will be removed, and your bite will be checked. Any adjustments to be made will be done at this stage and you may be asked to have a follow-up appointment to check the veneers.
