How Much of Your Day Should You Devote To Oral Health Care?

How Much of Your Day Should You Devote To Oral Health Care?Dental care is crucial for healthy teeth and gums. For effective dental cleaning, you should devote some time to brushing, flossing, and other dental hygiene practices. Lack of proper cleaning can result in serious dental conditions like cavities and decay. Devoting a good amount of time to oral health care will go a long way in preventing any of these conditions.

Brushing Your Teeth

Proper brushing should take at least two minutes. However, for thorough and effective cleaning, you can brush for up to three minutes. This should be done on both the lower and upper teeth. Unfortunately, most people don't brush their teeth for that long, leave alone a minute. If you have this problem, we recommend that you use a timer to make it more accurate. Besides, there are electric toothbrushes with a self-timer to help you monitor your brushing. As much as timing your brushing is important, it is more crucial to ensure that the surfaces of your teeth are clean. For effective cleaning, you can use short strokes, moving the bristles back and forth against the teeth and gums.

Flossing Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth alone cannot guarantee good oral health. This is why flossing is very important. Flossing should take around five minutes to ensure that all the areas are clean. Sometimes, bacteria can stick in between your teeth, an area where brushing cannot reach. Thorough and timed flossing can help remove such bacteria, preventing dental conditions like cavities and decay. Severe conditions can also lead to teeth loss.

Apart from practicing basic dental care like brushing and flossing, you should visit our offices regularly for dental checks. This is important because it will help identify underlying dental problems that cause damage to your teeth and gums. Contact our offices for more information on how to take good care of your oral health.
