Multiple Tooth Replacement – Dental ImplantsDental implant supported bridges are an excellent way to replace multiple missing teeth. They are designed to replace both your missing natural teeth and their roots. What Advantages do Implant Supported Bridges have over Other Options?Dental Implants have several advantages that other teeth replacement methods do not. First and foremost, implant supported bridges have the appearance and function of your normal teeth. Bridges also can replace missing teeth without needing support from any surrounding regular teeth. Alternative teeth replacement options for multiple missing teeth, like fixed bridges removable partial dentures, need nearby teeth to support them. Furthermore, because implant supported bridges replace some of your missing tooth roots, they will stimulate your jaw bone and better preserve it. Fixed bridges and removable partial denture don’t stimulate the bone as implants do. As a result, the bone that used to enclose the missing tooth roots can start to deteriorate if you choose those options. Dental implants, on the other hand, bond with the jaw bone in a process called osseointegration and preserve the bone’s health and structure. Implants provide functionality, comfort, longevity, and an aesthetically pleasing smile. When a removable partial denture or fixed bridge is used, the bone and gums can recede around the area where they’re placed, causing a visible deformity. If the bone beneath the removable partial dentures or fixed bridges deteriorates, it can cause your overall smile to collapse. Also, the cement that holds fixed bridges in place can wash out over time, causing bacteria to erode the teeth securing the bridge. Removable partial dentures also run the risk of shifting around inside the mouth, hindering your ability to chew certain kinds of food. What is the Procedure for Placing the Implant Supported Bridge?The first step is to surgically place the implants, which are titanium posts (called abutments), in the jaw bone. We then wait two to six months for the implants and the bone to bond together (osseointegration). You’ll have the option of wearing temporary crowns over the abutments. The next step is usually to uncover the implants and attach temporary healing caps. These extensions will complete the foundation on which we’ll place your new teeth. After this procedure, we will let your gums heal for a few weeks. However, some of our implant placement plans are done in only one stage, thus skipping this step. The one-stage system uses an Implant which has the extension piece already attached. Dr. Raptou will help you choose the best treatment plan for your individual needs and preferences. The final step is to attach the replacement teeth (in the form of bridges) to the metal abutments. These bridges are designed by us specifically for you. Before long, you will get used to the bridges and your ability to speak and chew will renew. Each patient is unique and requires their specialized treatment plan.
