Single Tooth Replacement

Single tooth replacement at Raptou Family Dental, Columbus, OHLosing teeth can be a very difficult experience that can happen for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes teeth are knocked out, or experience trauma so significant that they must be extracted. Other times decay reaches the inner portions of the tooth, and we cannot save it with a root canal. Sometimes teeth are lost because of bone loss and gum disease. Whatever the reason, we understand it’s not easy living without even just a single tooth, which is why we offer a few different single tooth replacement options to our patients. Here at Raptou Family Dental, we offer permanent and removable tooth replacement options to those who have experienced both minor and major tooth loss.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are a great way to replace a single missing tooth or several missing teeth. Dental bridges are permanent and can be supported by your natural teeth or by dental implants. A dental bridge is a permanent prosthesis that is used to replace missing teeth.

As mentioned above, dental bridges can be supported by either your natural teeth or dental implants, or both. One of the drawbacks of using your natural teeth to support a dental bridge is the teeth must be significantly modified so that they can act as abutment teeth for the bridge. When we talk about modifying natural teeth to support a dental bridge we are referring to the removal and reshaping of the enamel on the tooth. Because a bridge must sit over the top of the abutment teeth, they must be made smaller to accommodate a natural look and feel. To do this, we remove a good portion of the enamel from the surface of the tooth. Once the enamel has been removed from the tooth in this manner, the tooth will always need to have a prosthesis covering it to be useful.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a great option for single tooth replacement! They replace the whole tooth from root to crown and offer you long-lasting versatility. Dental implants can be used to support everything from dental crowns to bridges and even full arch replacements.

The process to receive a dental implant requires a few trips to our office and a fair amount of planning on our part. It does involve some minor surgery and some recovery time, but ultimately you will have a dental prosthesis that will add value to your oral health for the rest of your life. The versatility of a dental implant is second to none, so if you experience tooth loss in the future, we may be able to use existing dental implants to help solve these issues.
